BNA Staffing

Finally! The interview went well, the job description fits just what you are looking for. It seems as though you may have found the perfect job. And now, the offer phone call has come – you could not be more pleased. Not so fast though… Even though this may seem like the perfect IT job that your staffing firm has found for you, it is so important to make sure that this job is actually a perfect fit for you. There are other important things to consider besides salary and benefits when finally accepting that job offer. BNA has put together a short list of crucial things you definitely should think about before signing on the dotted line…

  1. Do you know the specific job responsibilities and amount of work that will be required? Sure, the job description the hiring manager or recruiter provided you with sounds great and covers all the bases but do you really know what your day-to-day work will be like? What projects will you actually be working on? Do you know the timelines for projects? Are they long term or rushed? Before committing to a job and a contract, make sure you know just what type of work you will be doing and most importantly, how much work will be required.
  2. What are your new bosses expectations? Going hand-in-hand with your job requirements, it is so important that you know what your potential boss will be expecting from you. Asking what his or her goals are for you in three, six and 12 months from your start date is a good way to gauge what these expectations are. Is he or she expecting a normal amount of progress and development? Or are they expecting you to perform small miracles for their company day in and day out? You better know this before diving in headfirst.
  3. Will you fit in with the company culture? Whether it is super laid back or very competitive, every company has their own personality and vibe. Before you commit to working somewhere, you should make sure that your personality is at the very least, compatible with the company culture so that you will be successful.
  4. What technology is being used? For tech and IT jobs one of the most important factors of being successful at a new job is being comfortable and capable with the technology they are using. From the equipment, to the programs and methodologies, you must be 100% comfortable and confident that you can operate them so that you are not learning new software on top of learning your new job!
