Compensation: $42.00 to $50.00 per hour
Overview:
Our client, a leading provider of energy and infrastructure solutions, is seeking an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to support an energy infrastructure project for the U.S. Coast Guard in Baltimore, MD.
This is an onshore federal construction project involving electrical and steam-related work. The SSHO will play a key role in maintaining a safe jobsite, conducting inspections, identifying and mitigating hazards, supporting safety training, and ensuring compliance with OSHA and applicable federal construction safety requirements.
The ideal candidate will have previous federal construction safety experience and a strong background in areas such as confined space, fall protection, electrical safety, and other high-hazard construction activities.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary SSHO overseeing day-to-day safety activities on the project.
Implement and enforce the project's Safety and Occupational Health program.
Conduct regular jobsite inspections and proactively identify and correct safety hazards.
Support safety activities related to electrical, steam, and other construction operations.
Monitor confined space, fall protection, and other high-hazard work activities.
Develop and maintain required safety documentation, including APPs and AHAs.
Lead or support incident and accident investigations and corrective actions.
Monitor subcontractor safety performance and compliance.
Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, orientations, and training.
Communicate safety requirements effectively to project personnel, subcontractors, project leadership, and government representatives.
Exercise stop-work authority when necessary to address unsafe conditions.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, federal construction requirements, and applicable EM 385-1-1 standards.
What You’ll Need:
High school diploma or GED required.
5+ years of construction safety experience managing or implementing safety programs on projects of similar size and complexity.
Current OSHA 30-Hour certification/training.
Experience serving as a SSHO, Site Safety Manager, or equivalent on federal construction projects.
Experience with USACE, NAVFAC, DoD, U.S. Coast Guard, or other federal construction projects.
Working knowledge of EM 385-1-1 and federal construction safety requirements.
Experience developing or maintaining Accident Prevention Plans (APPs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
Strong knowledge of OSHA construction safety practices.
Experience with confined space and fall protection programs.
Ability to work effectively with field personnel, subcontractors, project leadership, and government representatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting energy, electrical, mechanical, utility, or industrial construction projects.
Safety-related degree or nationally recognized safety certification.
Additional OSHA or construction safety certifications.
Experience working directly with Government safety personnel or Contracting Officers.
Strong safety documentation, inspection, and reporting skills.
NOTE: Candidates must meet the applicable federal/USACE SSHO requirements for the project, including required competency training.
