Location: Framingham, MA (Hybrid role for a local candidate) -OR- Remote (for a non-local candidate)

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day (1st shift hours)

Compensation: $35 to $50 per hour

Overview: Our client, a leading energy solutions & construction services provider, is seeking a detail-oriented Sales and Use Tax Analyst to join their team. This role is a replacement for an outgoing full time employee and will begin as a 6-month contract with the possibility of extension and/or full time conversion. The Sales and Use Tax Analyst will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely preparation, filing, and payment of sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions, along with related reconciliations and support for tax exemption compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing, filing, and payment of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns across multiple states.

  • Prepare and file additional indirect tax returns, including general excise, commercial activity, contractor’s excise, and other state-specific taxes.

  • Download tax data from Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) and manipulate reports in Excel for use in state tax portals.

  • Perform monthly reconciliations of the sales tax payable accounts, reconciling accruals to filed tax returns and payments.

  • Support the accounting team by maintaining clear audit trails and documentation for all tax filings and payments.

  • Assist sales and project management teams by researching sales tax exemption rules and preparing exemption certificates for qualified purchases.

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with state-specific sales and use tax exemption regulations.

  • Respond to internal inquiries related to tax compliance and assist with any audits or notices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferred). A High School Diploma (or GED) is required.

  • 2+ years of experience with multi-state sales and use tax compliance.

  • Strong working knowledge of sales tax exemption rules and technical requirements.

  • Experience preparing account reconciliations related to sales and use tax payable accounts.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions for data manipulation and analysis.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) or similar ERP systems is a plus.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple filing deadlines.

  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with internal departments and tax authorities.
