Salary: $140,000 - $190,000

 

General Summary:

Responsible for conducting training and performance management claim file reviews, assisting in managing the Claims Best Practices and Litigation management program as assigned, and providing leadership and support to the claims staff on complex medical malpractice claims. The successful candidate is an experienced medical malpractice claim person who brings expertise, teamwork, and leadership to the role.

 

Responsibilities:

· Provide technical knowledge and sound business judgment in the review and evaluation of high-exposure and complex claims.

· Assist in the management of key department initiatives such as Best Practices and Litigation Management.

· Conduct performance management audits of the claims staff collaboratively.

· Manage, train, and mentor staff on all aspects of claims handling.

· Assess coverage, liability, and damages to determine exposure.

· Make recommendations on complex claim reserve changes, settlement valuations, and trial decisions.

· Attend trials, mediations, settlement conferences, and travel related to marketing initiatives as needed.

· Escalate noteworthy claims to senior management such as high exposure or novel claims.

· Maintain a close working relationship with defense counsel in the management of litigation including but not limited to disposition strategy throughout the claim life.

· Draft coverage letters as appropriate, and review department correspondence.

· Support underwriting on marketing calls and claims reviews with significant clients.

· Build and maintain strong working relationships throughout the company.

· Other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Qualifications:

· Four-year college degree required. Attorney preferred.

· 10+ years of progressive claims experience required.

· Medical Professional Liability experience with carrier strongly preferred and related insurance credentials a plus.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

· Ability to professionally present to both a large audience and on one.

· Strong organizational and time management skills.
