Commodity Trade Associate
Job Title: Commodity Trade Associate
Job Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Work Location: Englewood, NJ (Note: Company will be relocating to a new office in Manhattan in Summer 2026)
Work Schedule/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day (standard business hours)
Compensation: $60,000-$100,000 (base salary range) + Annual (Discretionary) Bonus
Company Overview:
Our client is an established North American-based trader and distributor of specialty chemicals and minerals, with a focus on the animal feed and fertilizer industries. Headquartered in Englewood, NJ, and with agents in China and Mexico, they play a key role in global trade, connecting producers and customers through logistics, risk management, and financial services.
Position Overview:
This role is much less about traditional logistics and much more about market intelligence, relationship management, and commercial problem-solving in a global commodity trade environment. Day to day, you’ll be supporting physical commodity trades from contract through delivery, assisting with market research, coordinating logistics when needed, and helping the team make informed decisions that protect supply continuity and margins. The role involves building relationships, proactively managing suppliers, negotiating contracts (including tariff protections), ensuring product arrives on time and at the right price, and adjusting plans when disruptions happen (weather, tariffs, customer demand changes, etc.).
On the customer side, it’s about understanding why buying patterns change, maintaining close relationships, identifying market shifts (like competitors gaining share), and working collaboratively on solutions such as pricing adjustments.
This is a people-driven, relationship-heavy commercial role in global commodities — not a logistics coordination position. Success will come from staying connected to suppliers and customers, constantly gathering market intel, anticipating risks, and solving problems before they impact the business.
Primary Responsibilities:
Trade Operations & Execution
Monitor shipments and inventory positions to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, and storage facilities.
Review and administer commercial contracts ensuring key terms (pricing, volumes, delivery windows, and operational obligations) are executed accurately.
Conduct market and research to support trading and logistics decisions.
Support contingency planning and rapid execution adjustments when disruptions occur.
Accurately record and input customer orders, shipping details, and trade-related data.
Coordinate domestic and international logistics, including trucking, rail, ports, and storage facilities.
Qualifications & Skills:
Experience: 1-5 years of professional experience in Trade Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain Operations, Finance, or a related field.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Finance or Economics degrees preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word) or similar tools.
Analytical Ability: Strong numerical skills with an ability to assess and conduct market research and analyze market data
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail with a focus on precise data management and accurate reporting.
Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Why should you join our client's team?
Fast-Growing Industry: Work at the intersection of global trade, logistics, and commodity markets.
High-Impact Role: Play a vital role in trade execution, financial risk management, and operational efficiency.
Career Growth: Opportunities to advance into logistics management, sourcing, or sales roles, with potential domestic and international travel.
Collaborative Environment: Join a dynamic and results-driven team with opportunities for professional development.
